Travels
South Coast • Galle · Mirissa · Unawatuna
Colonial ramparts, whale watching and palm-lined beaches along the south coast.
Trip Overview
Six days along Sri Lanka's laid-back south coast — a UNESCO fort, blue whales offshore and enough beach time to actually unwind. This is the slowest-paced trip in our lineup, built for travelers who want fewer stops and more sunsets.
Base yourself in two boutique beach stays and let the coastline do the work, with just enough structure to see the highlights without feeling like a checklist.

Day By Day
Day 1 of 6
Drive down the coast to Galle. Afternoon at leisure to settle in, then a guided sunset walk along the 17th-century Dutch ramparts.
Day 2 of 6
A full day inside the fort walls — boutique galleries, the Maritime Museum and the old town's colonial townhouses, at your own pace.
Day 3 of 6
Short drive to Mirissa. Stop at Coconut Tree Hill for photos before checking into your beachfront stay in time for sunset.
Day 4 of 6
Early boat departure chasing blue whales and spinner dolphins offshore, one of the most reliable whale-watching spots in the world. Afternoon free on the beach.
Day 5 of 6
Transfer to Unawatuna for snorkeling on the reef and an optional beginner surf lesson, followed by a relaxed evening at a beachfront bar.
Day 6 of 6
A final slow morning by the beach before transferring back to Colombo for your onward flight.
The Fine Print
Good To Know
No sighting can be guaranteed, but Mirissa has one of the highest success rates for blue whales anywhere in the world during peak season (Nov–Apr).
Yes — beach time is unstructured and the whale-watching boat requires no swimming, though snorkeling is optional if you'd rather stay on the sand.
Of course — the itinerary is a starting point and we're happy to shift nights between the two beach towns.
